On November 13, 2008, Jason Hill was
elected and sworn in at the Carl B. Stokes United States
Court House to the Board of Directors for the Northern District
of Ohio Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. The
FBA is dedicated to the advancement of jurisprudence in federal
law, and to promote the welfare, interest, education, and
of attorneys involved in federal law.
Jason Hill serves as a presenter for “Project Penalty
Awareness,” in conjunction with representatives of the
United States Office of Probation for the Northern District
of Ohio and representatives of the United States District Court
for the Northern District of Ohio, to various junior high and
high school students in Northwest Ohio. Project Penalty
Awareness is designed to educate youth as to the application
and severity of federal drug and firearm legislation and penalties,
and to deter future involvement and violations.
Jason Hill served as Northwest Ohio
Regional Counsel for the Ohio Democratic Party and the Barack
Obama “Campaign
for Change” during the 2008 General Election. Mr.
Hill oversaw the election preparation and election administration
of approximately 22 counties across Northwest Ohio. Mr.
Hill was also part of President Elect Obama’s motorcade
during an August campaign event across Northwest Ohio. As
part of the event, Mr. Hill had the opportunity to meet President-Elect
Obama and Vice President-Elect Biden.
On December 4, 2008, Jason Hill spoke
in Washington D.C. at the Food & Drug Law Institute’s
seminar entitled Regulation
of Controlled Substances: Balancing Medical Need and Diversion
Control. Mr. Hill’s presentation was entitled New
Issues on Regulation of Precursor Chemicals and Restrictions
Affecting Industry Use. Other substantive
topics addressed at the FDLI seminar included, The Controlled
Substance Scheduling Process, Registration Issues and their
Impact on Scheduling, Investigations and Inspections, Risk
Evaluation and Mitigations Strategy (“REMS”) for
Controlled Substances, and Enforcement Actions.

Steven Smith, Janine Avila, and Jason Hill were selected
by the University of Toledo College of Law and Toledo Bar
Association to serve as mentors to first-year students at
the University of Toledo College of Law. The Toledo Bar Association has partnered with the
University of Toledo College of Law to develop a mentoring
program partnering first-year students with leaders and active
members of the Toledo Bar Association. The program is designed to assist students
in their ethical and professional development, and to introduce
students to the day-to-day details of the practice of law. The
Toledo Bar Association’s membership consists of over
1,800 members. Mr. Smith, Ms. Avila and Mr. Hill were part
of the initial class of 25 mentors selected by the Toledo Bar
Association and the University of Toledo College of Law to
participate in this mentoring program.
On
December 10, 2007, Attorney Michael Bonfiglio spoke at the
Toledo Bar Association 2008 Annual Common Pleas Court Seminar. Mr.
Bonfiglio’s presentation was entitled “Prejudicial
Pitfalls to Avoid During Opening and Closing Statements” and
focused on recent court decisions overturning jury verdicts
in medical malpractice cases due to concerns by the courts
over the improper conduct of trial counsel. Mr. Bonfiglio
focuses his practice on representing victims of medical malpractice
and persons injured due to the negligence of others.

Jason Hill was asked by Ohio State Bar Association President
Robert Ware to participate in a panel discussion at the 2008
Annual Ohio State Bar Association Convention to discuss the
importance of a new lawyer’s active involvement in bar
association activities, and the role that bar association involvement
plays in the professional development of new attorneys.

Jason Hill and Katherine King recently completed a two-day
hearing in Savannah, Georgia before the Department of Justice
against the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in the case
of In the Matter of CBS Wholesale Distributors, Docket
No. 07-14, defending their client’s right to retain its
D.E.A. Certificate of Registration. A substantial portion
of Mr. Hill’s practice involves representing D.E.A. registration
holders in administrative and civil matters against the D.E.A.

Jason Hill has been asked to serve on the steering committee
for the 2008 Access to Justice Awards Dinner. The guest
speaker at this year’s awards dinner is Morris Dees,
founder and chief trial counsel for the Southern Poverty Law
Center. The Access to Justice Dinner is presented in
conjunction with Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc.,
Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO), and the Toledo Bar
Association Pro Bono Legal Services Program to recognize individuals
and organizations from the northwest Ohio area providing access
to justice for the underprivileged. Connelly, Jackson & Collier
LLP is also a sponsor of this year’s awards dinner.
On February 28, 2008, Attorneys Reginald Jackson, Jr. and
Jason Hill received a written decision in favor of their client
in the case In the Matter of Gregg & Son Distributors, Docket
No. 05-43, from the Administrative Law Judge recommending that Gregg & Son’s client’s
Drug Enforcement Administration Registration be renewed. The
Administrative Law Judge also stated in her decision that it
appeared the D.E.A. had violated the notice and comment rulemaking
provisions of the Administrative Procedures Act. A substantial
portion of Mr. Hill’s practice involves representing
D.E.A. registration holders in administrative and civil matters
against the D.E.A.
